. I remember a first grade student who was a natural speller. A good way to learn new vocabulary is learn about 20 words a week from a dictionary and understand what they mean. That’s why, I think, most people teach writing with just a prompt; they truly don’t know what else to do. On any given day they may be: coming up with a new idea, writing about that idea, revising their work (changing it to make it better), editing their work (fixing spelling and grammar), or publishing their work (rewriting it or typing up their final copy).
